reason for returning heartburn?
#1
Hello,

I have had acid reflux problems for more than 15 years now and have been using medications since I was diagnosed. The current medication is Nexium and it has been working well for a while. I have only had problems when I strayed far from my diet.

Now though in the last month, I have had heartburn regularly. I have a constant burning in my chest and I burp up stomach acid. I have had a work schedule with overtime that has made a mess of my sleep routine. I have also been having a glass of beer to help me fall asleep as I am all wound up. I have been eating properly the whole time.

Now I am wondering whether the alcohol, the messed up sleep schedule or something else is causing this heartburn. I am concerned that I may have upset the balance and doomed myself.

Has anyone else had this happen? How long did it take for the symptoms to go away again?

Thank you in advance

The sleep schedule could be causing it in my opinion. If I don't get my sleep, I have heartburn for days. I don't have GERD Your continued overtime could be causing this to continue. You could be stressed too from all the work and this could be causing some of the problems also.

I hope it goes soon!

Even if you get it under control, you have probably damaged your esophagus. When I was first diagnosed, I took two weeks to get rid of the pain I was feeling. This means that it will take a while to heal. I would try to make sure you are eating long before bedtime so your stomach isn't full while you are lying in bed.
