Addiction related mental disorders
#1
Addiction of any type is a complex issue which combines physical as well as mental conditions. Altogether, it affects an addict. Frequently, addiction is accompanied by a clear mental disorder such as depression. In this case, an addict needs to treat both conditions in a complex. As Addiction Resource states, there are dual diagnosis rehabs for such purposes. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse"
Quote:Although substance use disorders commonly occur with other mental illnesses, this does not mean that one caused the other, even if one appeared first.
In other words, they are related but not cause each other. Mental illnesses can contribute to drug use and substance use disorders and vice versa. Additionally, the NIDA highlights:
Quote:Treatment for comorbid illnesses should focus on both mental illness and substance use disorders together, rather than one or the other.
