Is there any evidence that the higher the SPF sunscreen works better than the lower SPF?

Recently, I was told that there were no noticeable differences in sunscreens with a 30 SPF or higher. For example, a 50 SPF sunscreen works the same way or the same amount as a sunscreen with 70 SPF. I don't know if I believe this. Does anyone know?

I would prefer to use a 50 SPF sunscreen to help prevent skin cancer and prevent sunburn over any other sunscreen.
