Plaquenil for Lupus
I started taking Plaquenil for a Lupus flare that caused a horrible rash which lasted for six months. I went to a Dermatologist who prescribed 100 mg Plaquenil twice daily. Ordinarily, it can take six to eight weeks before it starts to work, but the rash started to clear up within two weeks and was just about gone after the fifth week.

The medicine works, but two of the drawbacks are you have to go for a special eye exam every six months and also get regular blood tests to monitor liver function.

They tried Prednisone before putting me on the Plaquenil, but as soon as I stopped taking it the rash came back.
