Muscles Tightening Up Due To Stress Reaction
I have been really depressed an anxious this last month. I have started to notice that I am clenching my jaw and my muscles when I am supposed to be relaxing. Then I try to stretch and calm down, but the following day I am sore from clenching and my muscles are stiff. Is this happening to anyone else?
This isn't uncommon so you're not alone.

What is it that's stressing you out so much right now? If you find the source, you can work on fixing that portion and you're less likely to be tensing up. If it's been going on for a long while, it might be time to talk to your doctor for some help, too.
I haven't noticed it to the extent where it is really bothering me quite the same way it seems to affect you. But I do tense up and clench my jaw when I'm really anxious.
This is actually a reaction that scientists say is left over from the "fight or flight instinct" our cavemen ancestors had. We brace ourselves for a coming dangerous encounter. Supposedly our instincts don't know that this "modern danger" is no longer life threatening. In comparison cavemen encountered life threatening situations around 3 or 4 times a day. In our modern world this reflex of ours is triggered more than ten times that amount. Is it a wonder we feel exhausted and in pain at the end of the day. Try to relax and take things as they come. There is nothing to be gained from worrying about things we can't do anything about right now. Meditate or do some Yoga exercises to help your muscles relax and calm your mind.
Muscle tension is a common trait among people with stress. Stress can contribute to many ailments and dysfunctions. I remember when I had a stressful day, my neck muscles were sore and stiff as well as my back muscles. One of the best remedies for stress is relaxation. When you're relaxed, it gives your body a chance to heal and rejuvenate.

I agree with your opinon.
