Tension Headaches And Sleep

I usually suffer from migraines, but sometimes I get bad tension headaches from sleeping "too hard." Does anyone know what I mean? When your brows furrow and you're sleeping really intently, or when you sleep too long, you can actually wake up with a splitting headache. What should I do to prevent sleeping too hard?

That is a very interesting question. I get those too. I don't really have any suggestions but I take Advil for mine and it sort of helps. What do you do to make yours go away?

I don't know if many people will agree with this, but I drink coffee to try to make it go away. I start with water to protect my kidneys and liver, and then I drink coffee. I think I need it in the mornings. I think it's effective about 50% of the time. The other times, I will have to take a strong medication such as Excedrin migraine. I am actively seeking a better solution. Prevention of headaches, period. It's my main health problem.

Hi ladies, I sometimes wake up with headaches as I have sleep apnea. What I do, as I do with any headache. I blow oxygen into my brain, The headache will go away. I do not use pills for headaches. Hold your nose and blow like a blow fish. This gives air to your brain. Do it a number of times. You areate your brain, stopping the headache. This will also help you stay awake, if you need not to go to sleep.

Funnily enough, I woke with a headache this morning. It was a very hot night, and we
d been out with friends and had a few drinks, so I took ages to get to sleep, and then slept really deeply, and woke with a headache. I took an effervescent vitamin C tablet in water, and that didn
t work, although it usually does. Then I saw this post and I thought, let
s try it - there

I suffer with tension headaches reguarly when I wake in the morning - some days are worse than others and I have tried a number of remedies. I tried Artistry's tip above yesterday morning and it absolutely does work! I actually can't believe that not only did it work, it cleared it up really quick too. Many thanks Artistry from a tension headache-free mum of 3 :)

I find that I get headaches from tension quite a bit, even if it
s not necessarily negative tension. I
ve had a tension headache for the past two days--one right now--that is just throbbing in my head. I get mine over my eyes and across my forehead. Sometimes it helps to massage, but mostly, for me, I need to stop everything and lay down and do some relaxation exercises. It
s better than it used to be--only a few years ago, tension headaches could leave me in bed, eyes covered with a cloth, not able to stand anything above a whisper--and don
t put me in the sunlight. Even today, I can
t really take much direct sun at all--or I
ll face the consequences of another headache.

Artistry, thanks for that helpful tip, I'm definitely going to try that! I often wake up with tension headaches, and it's something I just cannot stand! Coffee sometimes helps, but I will try this out as well, thanks!

I just wanted to report back further on Artistry's tip, so you know it wasn't a one-off fluke, I have tried it several times since and it has worked each time too. :)

Not so odd, I have actually found that caffeine can be a good cure for a migraine. I tend to drink hot tea, regular not decaffeinated or herbal, when I have a migraine and this seems to help. Another good treatment for a tension headache is a hot bath, hot shower, or steam. This can help relax the person, and can even help relieve the headache itself.
