Cause of sleepwalking?
#1
Can anyone tell me what exactly is the cause of sleep walking? I have a brother who use to suddenly stand up and walk while sleeping before and then going back to bed.

Whenever he wakes up and we ask him about it, he says he doesn't remember anything.

Nobody really knows for sure as it is up for debate. Some scientists believe, and I think so too, that sleepwalking is caused when your brain fails to paralyze you (Your brain actually paralyzes your body every night to protect you and keep you from acting out your dreams) for whatever reason and you are acting out your dream when you sleepwalk.

There is no scientific research etc to back the reasons for sleepwalking. However, a few months ago now I began sleepwalking, something I had never done before. I was doing silly things while sleepwalking too, such as putting coffee in the washing machine and buttering an entire loaf of bread. After a month I went to the doctor and after he asked me about other symptoms, he sent me for a CT scan where they found a cyst on my brain. Thankfully it was treatable with medication and laser therapy. I think sleepwalking could be an indication, as in my case, of an underlying issue. The doctor wasn't convinced this symptom was due to the cyst and instead put it down to the stress of having the bad headaches I also experienced.....However, I haven't slept walked since.

I don't know what causes it, I know as a child I use to do it often.

I know you have an awareness of things to a certain extent. I've never
heard of anyone getting hurt from sleepwalking, I know I didn't.
