Alternative treaments?
Has anyone tried non-traditional medicine to treat IBS symptoms? I ask because I feel like I was diagnosed with IBS as a default, because the doctors simply couldn't determine what was causing my symptoms. They have basically resorted to recommending some pretty serious drugs to alleviate the symptoms. I'm not ready to go that route, particularly since I'm trying to conceive (and already have a toddler), and I will be nursing afterward. I also try to avoid drugs if I can. Has anyone out there had success with going a more unconventional route?
There is a lot of new evidence suggesting that probiotics can be helpful in restoring the appropriate bacterial mix in the gut. You can eat yogurt to get these but if you have problems with milk, you can also get a number of different capsules containing different types of bacteria. Another new piece of news is the use of gut flora transplants from someone with a healthy digestive system. This is brand new so I don't know where it is being used.
Yes, I have used the power of food to completely overcome Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I have eliminated foods which were introduced recently in our evolution, foods like grains, cow's milk, legumes, processed sugar, and seed oils etc. Our bodies have not adapted to these foods and cause a myriad of health problems, including IBS. I eat whole natural food, grass-fed meat, organic fish, lots of vegetables, moderate amounts of nuts and fruit. Since eating the food we are designed to eat, my IBS disappeared, no coincidence.
