It is in our nature to protect ourself from harm and to seek comfort, stability and security. Crying is a form of therapy and a long good cry can be enough to let all those bottled-up emotions out. 4) Exercising is also a good means to release anxiety. Studies show that those who do not exercise enough are more inclined to suffer from anxiety yet exercising is one of the most effective ways to stave off feelings of anxiety. Exercise also improves the immune system and it releases natural chmicals in the body that make us feel good, called endorphins. These brain communication chemicals are known to calm people and improve their well being.

5) Meditating is important to improve relaxation and meditation routines are also highly effective in keeping anxiety at bay. Since there are a variety of meditation techniques available it is best that each person tries different approaches to discover what works for them. A good example is guided meditation and is actually recommended for beginners. To make it easier for a person to learn how this is done, look for videos online or invest in an affordable meditation CD. Guided meditations incorporate sounds of nature and calming music. Another type of meditation called mindfulness meditation involves a rather odd way of addressing the reason behind a person’s anxiety. It forces the mind to focus on the very thing that causes the anxiety and in doing so causes the anxiety to eventually fades away.

6) Learning to be a more positive thinker is also fundamental to managing anxiety. While overriding the mind to think positively during feelings of intense anxiety may seem ludicrous, research has found that reseting the mind and dwelling on the positive does help to overcome feelings of anxiety. This is because the more time a person spends with negative thoughts, the more they will feel miserable and feed their feelings of anxiety. So, for those with anxiety, surrounding themselves with positive people and training thoughts to think positively is in of itself beneficial.

All these approaches do not promise to end anxiety as it is a complex problem. However, investing effort in these activities will teach a person to better cope with the condition.
