pain between shoulder blades

Hello, I am not new to GERD. I have had it for a number of years. But my current medication isn't working well so I am trying new ones. In the meantime my esophagus has gotten so injured that I have a stabbing pain between my shoulder blades. Its really quite uncomfortable. The doctor is aware and says that it will go away once my stomach acid levels are reduced by the drugs and I have healed.

What I want to know is how long the pain lasts. I am supposed to be on vacation in 3 weeks and I really don't want to be suffering this pain when I am supposed to be enjoying myself?

Has anyone else experienced this level of damage? Do you know how long it takes to recover?

RE: pain between shoulder blades

I wouldn't try to guess how long it will take to recover. You don't really know how damaged the area is. You will probably have pain until it heals.

Also, if your medications aren't working yet, you might find you still need to try others. I don't want to be spoil sport, but I wouldn't wreck a perfectly good vacation feeling miserable.

Good points. I really knew I shouldn't go, but I was also really looking forward to a vacation.

RE: pain between shoulder blades

I know your pain. My job has been miserable for a couple of years and I would love to go on vacation. Until I get the awful taste out of my mouth though and get a little healthier, that's all I would be thinking about.

RE: pain between shoulder blades

Each person recovers at different rates depending on overall health. Has your doctor also checked your gall bladder? A lot of stabbing pain between your shoulder blades can also be a sign of gall bladder disease. I hope you feel better soon.
