How Long For Dietary Changes To Reduce Blood Pressure?

I have been trying to find this for a few days without any luck. I thought I would ask. I have been recently diagnosed with HBP and I am only 30. My doctor thinks that I can reduce my blood pressure with changes to my diet alone but I am worried. How long does it take for any diet changes to reduce blood pressure?

Should I ask another doctor for a prescription if this doctor won't give me one or is it safe to try the diet first?

I have been on blood pressure drugs for a while. I am on others for my RA too. When I dropped the salt and sugar from my diet the blood pressure dropped in days. If your doc doesn't think you need the drugs you probably don't have high risks. You should be able to fix it by changing the diet.

Take it from someone on lots of drugs. If you can avoid taking them do it.

I have to agree. It is far better to manage with diet than take drugs. Once you start taking them you will probably be on them for life.

If your BP had been worryingly high, I'm sure your doctor would have put you on drugs immediately. He clearly thinks you'll be safe to wait a while.

Dietary changes will take several weeks to have an effect on your blood pressure. Even drugs don't act immediately, and they should be a last resort anyway. Another way you can help to lower your blood pressure is to increase your levels of activity. Even going for a brisk daily walk will help.

I had a problem of constant high Blood Pressure and no medicine was working for me. So my friend suggested me to take Green drink and trust me it was the best and worked wonderfully to reduce my Bp to normal.

I really appreciate your reply ed. I take a lot of medications as well, and I wish I could ditch the BP meds. I had not thought about sugar being a contributing factor, but since I eat a ton of it, I'm going to try to cut way back, and hopefully break my addiction to it. I am on a strong dose of BP meds, and sometimes my blood pressure is still high!

I would suggest to try the diet first as well. Avoid salty foods and oily foods. Don't eat too much meats, canned goods and processed foods. Then, you would also need to avoid coconut, palm and cocoa. Dark chocolate is okay once in a while. Who know if diet alone can help manage your high blood pressure.

I would also recommend to have some digital blood pressure monitor at home. So this way, you can monitor changes in your blood pressure and consult your doctor if the diet doesn't work for you. Good luck!

Coconut is a heart healthy food.I read that Coconut oil is recommended to lower High Blood pressure.If anything should be avoided it should be Hydrogenated oils,as they can harden your arteries,causing your blood pressure to rise.I agree the rest should be avoided.Processed foods contain a lot of salt.I have read that Dark Chocolate is good for heart health.Celery is also good.I was eating Celery with Almond butter.I was also eating beets and drinking beet juice as I read it opens up your arteries.Blueberries are also good for you too.
