fused wrists and keyboard use

I am wondering if anyone else with RA has had their wrists fused? My hands are just not responding to meds so the rheumy doc suggested bone fusion.
I write and program for a living so how much is this going to mess me up for using the keyboard?

Any answers would be good as I am guessing anyone using a forum types.

Oh, poor you. :( That sounds awful. Your RA must be really bad.

I don't know anybody who had to get that done and my family has a number of us with RA. Have you got a second opinion? I wouldn't even consider surgery without some doctors agreeing. There are many medications now that could work. Is your doctor old?

Yeah, I am not very happy about this suggestion but my rheumy has been good so far. He is older, but seems to know about newer medications and I have been on a few. I guess he shouldn't be offended if I get a second opinion though. I would like to find out from other people too though. It may be a good idea to the doctor, but not to people who got it done.

If your doctor is a good doctor, he should not be offended. It would be arrogant to not want a second opinion for a patient. Even if he is good, you do not know what other options exist until you see someone else. I wouldn't suggest surgery unless all other options were exhausted.

Fair enough annmagic. I can get a reference for a second opinion.

But, I stil would like to talk to someone who has had the surgery.
