Ideas for shortening migraine duration?

Does anyone have any suggestions for shortening the amount of time that a migraine lasts? I want to shorten how long they hit me for and get on my feet faster.

Alternative medicines, vitamins or anything are worth a try.

Thanks

I don't get migraines, but the neuralgia is brutal. I have not found a way myself to reduce my down time, but if you do find a way, please pass it along.

RE: Ideas for shortening migraine duration?

All I know is that if you lie down in a dark room with a cool rag on your head, you can help it. Not sure about shortening duration, I have not heard any tricks to that. If you can try to fall asleep that may help, but I know that is difficult to do when the pain is so intense you can't get your mind off of it.

I know this may sound weird but there is a pressure point between the first finger and the thumb, in the meaty part, that if you apply strong controlled pressure to the area it can easy the pain of a migraine. It doesn't always work, it depends on the severity of the migraine and how far into it you are. I usually have one of my children or my husband apply pressure to both hands while I lay down and close my eyes. If no one is around to help I will use clothes pins. It doesn't take the pain away but it does seem to lessen it for me. Also, it's not because it's causing other pain that takes away from the migraine pain, the pressure is never that strong. Also, I have found that if I pull the hair at the base of my skull for about 2 minutes and then let go I notice a decrease in the pain. Hope these help you.
