New biologics and TB?
I'm 40 years old, living with RA for almost 10 years, for all that time the course of the disease has been reasonably well controlled; however, my doctor is recommending that I start the "Biological medications" as I'm having increased pain and joint deformation despite my current treatment. The only problem is that before taking any of the Biological meds, my Rheumatologist wants to start me on a 9 months treatment for Tuberculosis since my Mantoux (sp) test showed positive. I'm honestly not sure if I want to undergo this treatment, since I read that taking the medication Rifampin for a long period of time can make you end up in the hospital with severe liver disease.
Has anyone have any experience with this type of treatments? I'm feeling quite stressed now, so I thought of reaching out ot someone with perhaps similar experiences; right now I would really love to hear some words of wisdom or experience out there.
