Anxiety in Class

Does anyone ever have this happen to them when in school? It started with me in my Junior year in highschool. I get all clammy and my throat tightens up. Then I get that feeling where I stiffen up. It happened to me recently when I just started going back to my classes for college. Does anyone have this problem, and how do you combat it?

RE: Anxiety in Class

Thanks I may have to check that out. I sort of worked through it, but it still occurs in some of my classes. I'm not sure if it's the boredom or being nervous.

RE: Anxiety in Class

Excuse me but I have to ask for some clarification. What is the main thing that causes your anxiety (according to you)? What are your thoughts on your class? Do you feel comfortable around/amongst those people?

And... are you afraid of public speaking? Especially, around the people you already know.

Thanks! I will do my best to help you out here.

For me it's not necessarily about public speaking. I feel like a lot of people have an aversion to speaking in public, but it's more just a feeling around other people that I don't know. In the case the other classmates. I feel it's hard to initiate conversations with people in class. Most of my classes I go into class, and I am pretty silent for the most part.

LoveLife702, come on! There is nothing easier than starting a conversation in class based on the stuff you study. Everyone does it, everyone. It's boring but has always worked. You all are study mates in the first place, never forget about that.

Are you really interested in the stuff you're learning? Do you work hard in class?

RE: Anxiety in Class

Yeah I have a good work ethic in class. I just feel shelled up, and I don't know why. This is something that has carried over from High School to College for me.

I don't want you to feel even more anxious about that... however, you'd better start working on this problem right now. The sooner, the better. Otherwise, it would probably be taken into your adult life as well. Something you don't want to happen, for sure.

1. Find the right people for you. The ones you feel comfortable around the most.
2. Try talking to them on topics outside studying
3. Review your interests as well

RE: Anxiety in Class

I'm having the similar issue in class. Don't know why but I don't feel myself properly connected when I'm in class.

RE: Anxiety in Class

Hi!

This happened to me as well back when I was in school. I even skipped classes just so I won't have to do reports or recitations. Now, that's not a good idea and it can negatively affect your grades. So don't ever follow what I did. It took me a while before I was able to even face these school requirements. A few suggestions that I can give to you are:

1. Be prepared. If you have a report coming up, study for it a week before. This way, you can be more prepared for the time of the report.

2. Have notes handy. You can always seek into these notes if ever you get mind blocked or something.

3. If you have trouble talking in front of many people, just focus on one part of the room. Maybe at the wall at the back, don't look into other people's eyes.

4. Don't drink coffee or anything that can hype you up before the report.

Good luck!
