What's causing that tension headache?

I am sitting here at work and I beginning to feel a headache coming on. I know it's not a migraine.

I guess it's a tension headache and I am feeling like I am getting a lot of those these days. It's usually brief and will pass with time or pain killers which I try to avoid.

What's causing these headaches? Is it lack of sleep, stress, eye strain or anxiety? I just read that these are all triggers for tension headaches.

Are you suffering from tension headaches as well?

RE: What's causing that tension headache?

All those things that you have mentioned are triggers for tension headache. I'll add a few more to the list:

1. Poor posture
2. Lack of physical activity
3. Squinting of the eyes
4. Dehydration
5. Skipping of meals
6. Very bright light

Up to now, there's still not a clear cause as to why tension headaches occur. It's very likely though that stress and its counterparts have connections to tension headaches. It's described as a pain occurring in the back of the head or a pressure around your forehead. It can last for minutes to hours and even up to days. And statistics say that about 80% of adults get them from time to time. So it's safe to assume that this isn't a rare occurrence and can happen to anyone.

RE: What's causing that tension headache?

A tension headache is generally a diffuse, mild to moderate pain in your head that's often described as feeling like a tight band around your head. A tension headache is the most common type of headache, and yet its causes aren't well-understood.
