Over the Counter Drugs

I just want other peoples opinion on the type of over the counter drugs one can take to help the temporary relief of lower back pain?

This past week while preparing for Thanksgiving, I moved furniture around. I set up an extra table. I stood about preparing food. The next thing I knew I had a lower back ache on Thanksgiving day.
I took one Aleve, a blue colored pill, because I know Motrin would never work all day. I have used Motrin, Advil, store brands of ibuprofen, and Aleve. They all work well.

RE: Over the Counter Drugs

I have heard that all the drugs Allison 2021 mentioned work. I have personally only used Aleve and Advil but not often. For back pain I would sometimes use Baralgin or Cataflam.

In my case I feel like I am in pain everyday and somehow just endure the pain. Whenever I decide to take any kind of medication it means that I am really in unbearable pain. Medicine is a last resort.

I've had back pain for since I suffered a fractured back 20+ years ago. I've been on and off of back pain relievers and for awhile now. But I do notice that when I lose weight that my back does get better and I don't have to take any meds.

So with that being said. My weight was a contributing factor to the back pain. I've lost some weight since then and it's not as troublesome anymore.

Do I exercise? No. I should though. Anything to strength the back muscles to help support that weight I have now wouldn't hurt.

RE: Over the Counter Drugs

The most commonly abused OTC drugs are cough and cold remedies containing dextromethorphan. People often think that prescription and OTC drugs are safer than illicit drugs, but that's only true when they are taken exactly as prescribed and for the purpose intended.

RE: Over the Counter Drugs

I have had chronic back pain for years now. I absolutely will not take prescription pain medication, as long as I can tolerate the pain. I do take 4 200 mg. Ibuprofen tablets most days before I go to work. Sometimes that's the only way I can make it through the day. I also visit my Chiropractor when I have time. I just don't like the idea of pain meds, although I know some people really need them.

RE: Over the Counter Drugs

Ibuprofen 800 always helps. Problem is there can be liver damage after prolonged use.

RE: Over the Counter Drugs

I suffer from mild to moderate back pain since I gave birth. A few of the over-the-counter medications I've tried are:

1. Acetaminophen. This works for mild back pain. I've tried using it when my back pain was pretty bad and it removed some of the pain but not all of it. Don't take this with alcohol because it can lead to liver damage.

2. Aspirin. Good for mild to moderate back pain. But if you have digestive problems, steer clear of this as it can aggravate that.

3. Ibuprofen. This works great for my lower back pain. Be careful of this one if you have a history of ulcer though as it can aggravate that as well.

And when it comes to exercise, yes, it did help in lessening my back pain. Once I started brisk walking and swimming, I found that my back pain was much more tolerable. Yoga helps as well, it relaxes me and releases some of the tension in my back.

I hope this helps!
