Do men have breast cancer also?

I remember someone saying to me a long time ago that men can have breast cancer as well. Is there any truth to that? I mean, you hardly read it anywhere on the net or in the news, but I guess it is possible?

RE: Do men have breast cancer also?

Yes, it does exist! The National Cancer Institute estimates that only one percent of all cases of breast cancer affect males. Here is a partial list of famous men who had the disease.

Richard Rountree from Shaft was diagnosed with breast cancer, and had a double mastecomy and chemo.

Rod Roddy from the Price is Right, had two kinds of cancer... colon and male breast cancer. He had a mastectomy in 2002, but didn't survive, and died in 2003.

Senator Edward Brooke, was diagnosed with breast cancer. He didn't think he had a problem because he felt he had a pulled muscle from outside gardening. He had a double mastectomy and stayed cancer-free until he passed away at age 95!

Kiss drummer, Peter Criss, said "You don't need boobs to get breast cancer". In 2007 he found a lump under his left breast. He has become a very public advocate for male breast cancer awareness.

Yes, it is true that men too can have breast cancer. In men, it is usually a PAINLESS lump. Usually it is hard and is in the area just around the nipple. The lump can be deep and does not need to be on the surface of the skin.

Since men don’t usually check their breast or chest area, breast cancer is usually advanced in men by the time of diagnosis. Most men have advanced stage III or IV disease by the time they get diagnosed. For further reference, you can check out http://geneticmedicineclinic.com/

RE: Do men have breast cancer also?

I was surprised to realize that yes, men do have breast cancer, even if it's naturally more rare that is happens. So nothing like checking and going to the doctor if anything unusual appears.

<cite>This is the first time I have read about men's breast cancer. Whoever it may be men or women, cancer is the worst disease.
