Anti-Depressants for Panick Attacks

Has anyone else been put on anti-depressants for panick attacks. I was told about 15 years ago that I would need to go on them for the rest of my life. I tried about 6 different ones and could tolerate them. They made me groggy and like a zombie.

Instead I opted for Ativan when needed and it did the trick. I am doing a lot better over the past 3 years and only have to take a small piece of Ativan about once every 3 months or less. I really feel that Doctors have prescribed anti-depressants to too many people and for things that don't need anti-depressants. I am not putting down those who they have helped in any way. They just were not for me.

I also did a program where I for one week did things that scared me and made me panick. This was non drug related. It did help a lot.

I have refused to go on medication for panic attacks. I try my best to control them myself. I agree that doctor over prescribe medication and not just for panic but for so many other things. So many people are on anti-depressants. They just have to go to the doctor and ask them for it and they get it. No questions asked and if you can't get them from a doctor they are readily available on the streets which is very scary. It is a sad situation. Sounds like you have your attacks under control. A small piece of Ativan every 3 months or less is good. I wouldn't mind something like that. I just don't want to have to depend on meds like so many people that I know do.

Try to stay away from prescribed meds for panic attacks. Ive been able to hold back my panic attacks by exercising daily. Practicing deep breathing and meditation twice a day for about 10 minutes. I was originally on xanax , and it just made me a zombie.
