How do you cope with social anxiety?

Hi guys, can I ask a question?

How exactly do you guys cope with social anxiety? I've always found it to be something hard to deal with, especially with my case. I find it really hard to interact with others and talk to a lot of people because, for some reason, a lot of people just seem to irritate me.

Is there some sort of way that you guys discovered that helped you cope with social anxiety?

RE: How do you cope with social anxiety?

The most helpful thing I've done for my anxiety is attend a cognitive behavioral group. A lot of my social anxiety is unfounded and creating more balanced thoughts help. It also helps to be in a supportive environment with people who understand what I'm going through. I'm also seeing a psychologist now which has been so beneficial.

RE: How do you cope with social anxiety?

I have recently been in counseling for these past two years. My current psychiatrist insists on his patients seek weekly or monthly visits with a counselor from his office.
My counseling sessions helped me to determine that I rarely suffered from social anxiety before ten years ago. We are still trying to get to the bottom of its cause.
However, there were time, I could hardly leave the house. Anytime I went shopping, it was only very late at night. With her help, I can now go out after work to shop at some of the most popular grocery stores. Additionally, the doctor switched me off Zoloft and prescribed Wellbutrin. I also read a bit more about overall depression and vitamin B. I began taking mega doses of vitamin B for the year of 2012, only. I feel much better. However, I still have bouts of social anxiety on a weekly basis.

RE: How do you cope with social anxiety?

I don't do well uin group situations. It always stresses me out. I don't know what to say or if I say anything I feel it will be stupid and not interesting. I lack confidence in myself so it causes me anxiety. I force myself to go to these places because I am afraid if I didn't make myself go I would get to a point where I would just stay home and I don't want to do that. I do my best to try and face my fears.

RE: How do you cope with social anxiety?

My best coping mechanism are deep breathing and doing yoga. Those are the things that help me to feel more "centered". I would say that being rested and exercise are also the next best things.

RE: How do you cope with social anxiety?

I think the best way is forcing yourself to do things that are out of your comfort zone. I mean, normal things. Like stopping someone on the street and asking for directions or time. Taking to a salesman. Putting on some stupid clothes and going out. Eventually, your brain will be working differently.

RE: How do you cope with social anxiety?

We all have to some extent. Even the most extroverted people do. I guess, it's all because people are afraid of being judged. Some of us are afraid to fail because they think they are gonna be judged and thrown frowns at. Sure, those feelings are not amongst the most pleasant ones.

However, my advice is not to make a dig deal out of it, as it almost makes no sense. Most people are kind of hateful, generally. They are full of their issues. However, it doesn't make them stronger and better than us. So, there's no reason to be afraid of them If you do socially acceptable stuff.
