Fear of Upcoming Holidays

I love the fall, but never fully get to enjoy it because that's when the malls and stores start stocking up Christmas items. That's also when I get reminded of all of the holiday parties and social functions I have to attend. Does anyone else hate this time of the year? I feel like I can only be comfortable for 9 months out of the year.

RE: Fear of Upcoming Holidays

I also love the fall, but do suffer from a lot of anxiety due to all the extra social functions. I'm Canadian so I just had to go to Thanksgiving dinner at my uncle's house this past Sunday. It was just a small get together but it feels like a chore. I was exhausted when I got home. Fortunately, we have a pretty low key Christmas so that doesn't provoke a lot of anxiety. I also do a lot of my gift shopping online and in advance so I really don't even put myself in that position of shopping with the crowds. I'm looking forward to Halloween though, since I just watch a bunch of horror movies by myself.

RE: Fear of Upcoming Holidays

I am going to meet most of my new boyfriend's family. This terrifies me. I am much older than him and I know things are going to be so weird. I just have to take my medication and just deal with it. I hope I get some alone time.

RE: Fear of Upcoming Holidays

Holidays are a stressful time of year. With the holiday shopping, all the crowds, going to so many people's houses, Christmas parties, it can take its toll. I dread the upcoming holidays also but I keep telling myself that I got through the ones in the past so I will get through this year too. I just have to take time for myself and not overdo it. I don't have to go everywhere I am invited and I have been doing a lot of my Christmas shopping online the last few years and that has made a huge difference. I rarely go to the malls unless I really have to.

RE: Fear of Upcoming Holidays

For me this stress, unlike other types of stress, is something I welcome. The love of family is what I keep in mind, and it always pulls me through all the big shopping lines and the hours of chores to ready for family parties.

It's cool that you have to attend some social gatherings. So, it probably means that people invite you because they enjoy your company. Some of us here don't even have the ones to talk to. So, you're kind of blessed for them. Just take it easy. It's just holidays. You don't have to do anything serious there.
