Trouble breathing when on my back

From November last year I had a tightness in my chest and troubles breathing when on my back. I When it started I went to the clinic to get checked. They said there was nothing wrong with my heart but I could have GERD. I went to my doctor and he gave me Dexilant. I think it is better now but only some. I still have the problem when I lay on my back. I also got a stupid cough that I read is probably post nasal dripping. The coughing is really annoying but the tight chest is always there driving my nuts. How can I get rid of it?

RE: Trouble breathing when on my back

Your chest is likely tight because of uncontrolled reflux and if you are not feeling reflux, you may have something called silent reflux. You may also have LPR. Both of these are due to acid going up your throat where it does not belong. It can cause the tightness, the post nasal drip and asthma like symptoms from the reflux going into your lungs. This can occur even if you do not feel reflux. To resolve this, you may need a different medication so it would be a good idea to visit a specialist to find out how best to treat the symptoms.

RE: Trouble breathing when on my back

I would agree that you are probably suffering with silent reflux. Have you attempted to make any changes to your eating habits or diet to avoid some of the symptoms. In addition to medications, you would probably see some relief in trying this.

RE: Trouble breathing when on my back

I haven't done nothing yet. I don't know what I should do. What do you mean about changing eating habits and diet? I want more info please. I only started the drug and that is supposed to work but it is not too good.

RE: Trouble breathing when on my back

First of all, you can start eating more smaller meals to prevent acid from building up in the stomach. If you eat more often, it does not get a chance to become as strong. You can also keep track of the trigger foods that can be making your symptoms worse although without any pain, it is harder to see whether or not a particular food is causing you issues.

If you have not seen the doctor since November, I would also get another appointment with your doctor to find a different medication that may be more effective.

RE: Trouble breathing when on my back

I am going to the doctor to get a better drug for this. I don't have time for writing down everything I eat. That will take forever. Thanks for trying to help

RE: Trouble breathing when on my back

To help stop the Post Nasal Drip, try breathing steam from boiling water. I read that this helps a lot. Good luck.
