Could I be a Diabetic?

I have to ask this question because I have had blood work that has showed that my blood sugar level is elevated. However, the last blood work that I had about six months ago showed that the blood sugar level was normal. So, now they don't think I do have diabetes, although it was suspected before this. I have to ask is it possible to still have a normal blood sugar level appear in blood work, but still have diabetes.

I ask this because I do have some symptoms that are associated with diabetes. These symptoms include feeling weak and tired at times. I also have notice that I have a dry mouth more then usual. This is a concern of mine because diabetes is genetically linked in my family.

RE: Could I be a Diabetic?

You should not consider symptoms like this dry mouth, weakness and tiredness may be mainly due to lack of vitamins and nutrients. You should go for complete blood count, lipid profile, urine test to rule out diabetes and its symptoms.

RE: Could I be a Diabetic?

You should test your blood sugar at different times of the day. The levels will vary depending on what you have eaten and whether it's early in the day or not. A normal blood sugar level is possible and for you to still have diabetes. My father has diabetes and a good day is a reading of 5 or 6, anything over 8 for him means he must be careful. He once took a test after taking some cough medicine and it went up to 12 as it had sugar in it.

If you have a history in your family, you should definitely get tested each year.

RE: Could I be a Diabetic?

My grandfather is almost 87. Hope he will be. He has battled his diabetes two years ago but it seems to be back again. The sugar level in his blood is very high now. Genetics is also involved.

I'm 21 and I think I will face this If I make my way to his age. A couple of months ago I significantly reduced the amount of sweet stuff I consume daily.

RE: Could I be a Diabetic?

The problem is the hidden sugar in food and drink these days as well, so people can seem to be eating healthier but their sugar level is still high. For example too many carbohydrates at night, or too many fruit juices can all contribute.

Cutting down on sugar is good for everyone, but it's not that easy if you eat out or when you are on the road.

Yeah chances are there. Do consult a physician
