Do You Need A Medical Doctor To Diagnose Yeast Infection

I have a thick white creamy vaginal discharge. I think it would be considered a yeast infection and not something more serious. However, when Ii look up symptoms of yeast infection it said the discharge should be lumpy like cottage cheese. Mine is not like that, instead more like yogurt.

Would it be practical to try an over the counter drug before going to a doctor.

RE: Do You Need A Medical Doctor To Diagnose Yeast Infection

You do not need a doctor to diagnose a yeast infection. It sounds like you should see a doctor, but you don't need one for this diagnosis. You should probably grab some OTC medication as soon as possible.

RE: Do You Need A Medical Doctor To Diagnose Yeast Infection

According to statistics about 2/3s of women who think they have yeast infection in fact have a different kind of vaginal infection. This means that if they try to treat it with OTC drugs it won't work and could in fact make subsequent treatments more difficult. So it is important to go to your doctor for a proper diagnosis.

RE: Do You Need A Medical Doctor To Diagnose Yeast Infection

Yeast infections can sometimes be confused with other more serious conditions. While initially you might want to try an over the counter drug, I would recommend that you follow up with a visit to the doctor. I always prefer to err on the side of caution so to speak. These days you can never be too sure about anything.

I would say that from the sound of it you probably have a yeast infection. It would be easier to know if this was recurring, and it had happened to you before. I'm in agreement though with everyone else here. You should see a doctor to get a proper diagnosis.

RE: Do You Need A Medical Doctor To Diagnose Yeast Infection

I have some doubts that a medical doctor can diagnose a yeast infection because they don't see this as disease. As far as I see it, this is more in the alternative medicine area that they have the capacity to diagnose these infections. With the proper treatment, it can really change our life.
