GERD and stomach pain

4 days ago I had strong reflux and really bad stomach pain and nausea. I was doubled over laying in bed for hours and had to call in sick. I never threw up or anything like that. The next day I went to the clinic and they put me on Nexium because they thought it was GERD. I started taking it and was fine until today. Right now I am in so much pain. All I can taste is stomach acid. I didn't eat anything questionable either day. I noticed that my poop had a lot of undigested food in it last time this happened and today. I don't think I have GERD and maybe it is because there is too little acid. Does that make sense?

RE: GERD and stomach pain

Sorry that you are suffering. If you are feeling reflux, you probably don't have too little acid. I am really surprised that the clinic assumed GERD. The pain makes me think you could have gastritis. Some sort of infection or irritation in your stomach could be causing the pain. This could happen if you ate something bad or you were suffering some serious stress. I know you said you didn't eat anything bad but sometimes you do not know.

RE: GERD and stomach pain

Hi, I hope you are feeling better. I think I would have my doctor give me a checkup. Tou may be suffering from a hiatial hernia or an ulcer. Do not let this go too long. I have never heard of pain with GERD. It sounds more serious. Your doctor would know what to do. Good luck.

RE: GERD and stomach pain

I think I was okay for food but I didn't think about stress. The last 3 weeks have been extremely busy at work. I have a customer support job and I haven't had enough sleep working lots of overtime and all that. I am rather exhausted so my body probably can't keep up. Thanks for spelling out the obvious to me!

RE: GERD and stomach pain

Your system probably is stressed. I know that when I do not get enough sleep that I get flare ups of reflux. I have to manage my sleep well. I could never survive very long being sleep deprived. Having stress is one reason that food can go through undigested because the body just moves it through.

RE: GERD and stomach pain

That is good to know. I think it was stress. I don't have reflux problems normally. I told my management that I was a bit burned out and they assigned one of my coworkers to work the same case. I caught up on my sleep yesterday and feel better. I am going to see if I can get the symptoms down by not working so much for a few days.

RE: GERD and stomach pain

I know from personal experience that stress can definitely be a trigger of GERD. I have to always be careful about my stress level because I can trigger an attack if I'm not. Its not always easy because things happen that are out of our control I'm glad your feeling better after your scare. You did the right thing is asking for help in eliminating some of your stress.
