How much is an overdose of Zantac?

I have been taking 4 Zantac 75's per day. Yesterday I think I took 6 accidently instead. I usually keep them in a pill case but I had a lot of burning in my chest that wore me out so I had a nap. When I woke up I grabbed a different pill case by accident. They look the same. I had a horrible night with reflux that hardly let me sleep. When I got out of bed I found the original pill case. I think I took 2 too many. In short, is this an overdose?

RE: How much is an overdose of Zantac?

From the container, you are only supposed to be taking 4 per day so you did overdose. Did you have any symptoms as a result? Unless you are feeling bad, it is probably alright for a one time occurrence. These medications take a while to work in any event so just continue using them at the recommended doses. If you are prone to forget, get a pill case with a compartment for each time of day.

I agree that even though you may have overdosed, if it didn't make you sick, then don't worry about it. However, in the future be more careful. I know how easy it is when you are prescribed a certain drug, or taking a certain drug to either forget that you have already taken it or to get messed up. Best advice have a certain time of day in which you will take it and know that this is that time. A pill case can also help you to monitor your daily dosage, these can come in handy when it comes to making sure you don't over dose your medication.

Thanks for your thoughts. I haven't been taking them long. I wanted to be sure I hadn't caused injury.

The  bigger problem in my mind is that they are not working you on their own. How long have you been taking them? If you take them too long, they can stop working and if you haven't taken them long enough, they may not be working yet.

You are right. They aren't working. I have seen no change since I started them a week ago. I was hoping that they could start working soon enough. How long should I wait?

A week may not be long enough. They can take as long as two weeks to be effective. If you are seeing no change at all though, I would not be hopeful. If in another week they are not working, they probably are not going to. You should go back to your doctor if that happens.

Hi, hopefully by now you are getting relief. If you ever take too many again, I would drink a lot of boiled hot water to flush the system and reduce the potency of the pills.
