RE: Information about taking Remicade

Remicade is usually given via infusion. You will have to go to a clinic or the hospital. The process takes a whole day with about half the time in preparation and the other half getting the actual infusion. You may also be given some steroids and/or an antihistamine to limit the reaction because many people have a reaction the medication.

If they follow the standard Remicade infusion protocol, you will have one infusion, then another after 2 weeks, and another after 6 weeks. After that, every 8 weeks you will get one for maintenance.

I was a little different and on 6 week intervals for the first 6 months before moving to the 8 week maintenance treatment.

Does that answer your question?

RE: Information about taking Remicade

That is helpful thanks.

What do you mean by a whole day? How long have you been taking it? Did you have any bad side effects?

RE: Information about taking Remicade

Sorry, I meant a whole work day. If you work, you will have to take the day off. I have been taking it for more than a year and the only side effects have been stomach related. I have had an upset stomach, heartburn, nausea and pain at times. The stomach problems are often present so I take losec/prilosec regularly to manage it. That is the only complaint that I have experienced. Otherwise it works well enough.

RE: Information about taking Remicade

Hi. I wanted to add my experience. I have been on the medication for just less than a year. I took it as enmoxy described without any changes. The worst thing for me has been the fatigue. Most of the time, I am a bit fatigued, but every few months I have had really bad fatigue. My doctor has said that if it becomes persistently bad that he will move me onto something else. But, now I am taking it and it is working well.

RE: Information about taking Remicade

Alright, thank you. That is very helpful for me. Neither of you seem to be overwhelmed by side effects so there is some hope.

RE: Information about taking Remicade

There is certainly hope, but be prepared for the unexpected. These medications can cause very different problems for each person.
