Which foods make your reflux bad?

Hello,

I just wanted to find out from some other people which foods cause the worst reflux? I have read about some foods but they don't bother me. Other foods really bother me. For example, spicy foods don't bother me at all but broccoli and kale cause me pain and bloating for hours.

Casey

RE: Which foods make your reflux bad?

The trigger foods are different for everyone. That is why I am always recommending a food log to try to root out the trigger foods for people who are new to acid reflux. For me, anything with caffeine is bad. It just causes so much extra acid production. I used to drink iced tea (the real stuff) quite a bit as it was good keeping sharp after lunch. The problem was the the burning pain in the chest was sharper! So, sadly, I had to give it up but I feel much better as a result.

RE: Which foods make your reflux bad?

For me one of my biggest triggers to cause an Acid Reflux attack when my Acid Reflux isn't under control, is coffee. I am a coffee drinker and have to have a cup every morning but when my Acid Reflux wasn't under control I found this would lead to an attack. I also found that spicy foods might also cause me problems or even soft drinks. But the biggest trigger food or should we say drink was coffee.

I agree about broccoli but tomatoes and tomato sauce are my worst enemy. If I combine that with a little cheese then I am useless for hours because of the discomfort. Spicy foods are also out of bounds for me which is sad because I always loved the flavor. My stomach's reaction to many spices makes for dull food and enjoying most of my meals very challenging.

I never really liked tomatoes but those also affect me. When they are in food, I always suffer. They are really in too many foods for my liking. I like to eat a lot of vegetables just not those. I never really used a journal or log book but I did learn over time what I could and couldn't eat. Sadly, the "could" list is a bit short for my liking. At least I can handle the spices.

I've been having a problem with pizza lately. It doesn't matter what type, anytime I eat some I have awful discomfort for hours on end. I don't think it's the sauce since I can eat tomatoes with no problem. Indian food has started giving me problems too, when it never has before. Could be the spices, I don't know.

My ex-husband also suffered when he had coffee - to the point where he couldn't even consider drinking it in the end. He was relatively lucky when it came to food though. However, most spicy things were off the menu, definitely anything containing garlic.
