RA flares feeling like a flu or fever

Hello, I had been doing so well for a while but the last few weeks I have been in a flare with strange symptoms. I feel like I have a flu with chills, achy joints and I am sooo tired. My stomach is fine and I have an appetite so I really think it is just the flare. Is this something anyone else gets?

Yep, it sure is. I don't personally suffer from it, but I know others who do and they sometimes feel like they have the flu.... but it's just a flareup instead. It sounds awful. :(

RE: RA flares feeling like a flu or fever

Hi there!

I get chills sometimes in flares and it is so awful. I was checked for infection for one time because my doctor said the symptoms were strange. I was fine except for the bad flare. To me it is still smart to go to the doctor if it lasts or gets worse. I also like chicken broth when I am like this. It is soothing. Hugs and good health for you!

Good Luck!

Rose

RE: RA flares feeling like a flu or fever

In my RA flares I have felt warm to the touch but have been shivering under blankets. The symptoms are definitely those of a bad flare and they are as "normal" as RA gets. I hope you manage to get over it soon.

RE: RA flares feeling like a flu or fever

I think this type of flare is a non-specific stir up of symptoms that strikes when the immune system is particularly low. People tend to forget RA is not just about the joints - it affects the whole body. You get used to the pain of joint flares, but because this sort of flare is so generalised, it can actually be harder to handle.

RE: RA flares feeling like a flu or fever

Thanks for the sympathy. I am going to the doctor just in case. I have been off work for two days and I don't feel any better than I did before deciding to take the time. In the worst case, he can provide a medical note if any of my management is not feeling sympathetic. I feel a bit bad because everyone is on vacation and those who are left are overwhelmed but I am in no state to contribute much.

With this disease, you do what you can. When it comes out with fists swinging it is hard to fight it. It is better to just stay down for a while. Take care.
