Would You Buy A Pregnancy Test From a Discount Store?

Would you buy a pregnancy test from the dollar store? I see them near the checkout and always wondered as the price is certainly right.

I also see condoms sold here and would never buy them as there are some things I would not scrimp on. How about you?

I wouldn't, no. Well, actually, maybe I would if it was a spontaneous purchase... like if I had been wondering if I was pregnant, was already there, and just bought it on impulse. I know that I wouldn't trust it and would buy another anyway, but that's the only time I can think of when I would do it.

RE: Would You Buy A Pregnancy Test From a Discount Store?

I have bought a pregnancy test in the past, only it wasn't for me, but a family member. We paid quite a bit for it though, so would I buy one at a dollar store if I were faced with the same situation? Probably, because as the boxes themselves tell you, once you have the results from the test, you should always see a doctor to be absolutely sure of the results. As for condoms I have to admit I would be kind of apprehensive about buying them in a dollar store, but that's just me.

Yes, absolutely! Dollar Tree Tests are excellent. Trust me, I am a certified POAS (pee on a stick) addict. ;) I buy my pregnancy and ovulation tests online now, from eBay or Amazon. They are just little dip sticks, and they work out to being $0.08 each, or somewhere in there. They are just as good as First Response. With the expensive name brands, you are paying for the convenience of peeing directly on the test, as opposed to in a cup and dipping your stick, and their advertising budget. They are no more accurate.

The only tests you want to avoid are those that use blue dye. Look at the picture on the box - if they lines are pink, you are good to go. If they are blue, don't waste your money. Blue dye tests are notorious for having evaporation lines, or "false positives".

RE: Would You Buy A Pregnancy Test From a Discount Store?

My last two pregnancies were with dollar store tests and both worked fine. In fact, my midwife told me that the hospital she worked at used the same brand on patients. If it is good enough for a hospital! If I were convinced I was pregnant and a couple of cheap tests had said negative, I may have been tempted to wait another week and try a more expensive brand. But as far as I am concerned, they do the job just as well.

i have bought a pregnancy test,Pregnancy signs and symptoms can range from mild to severe. The symptoms an expectant mother experiences can vary from pregnancy to pregnancy as well. Some of the warning signs that may point to complications can also be “normal” pregnancy symptoms.

I would! I remember buying a test for a friend years ago and it was $15. You're just going to pee on it and throw it away. I would buy 5 from a Dollar Store to make sure that I am not pregnant and then go to a clinic if they came back positive instead of buying one $15 and freaking out. It's a bargain!

I think I'll try one and then compare with a regular one from the pharmacy. Then if the experience tells me anything, I'll know what to do next.

RE: Would You Buy A Pregnancy Test From a Discount Store?

I've never personally used a discount store test, but that's only because I bought a multi-pack of even cheaper tests online. What I did was use the cheap test as my initial test every morning when I thought I could be pregnant. Once I got a result that appeared positive, I took two additional tests - one was a more expensive "early result" test and the other was a digital test. Both of the additional tests confirmed my positive result. I suppose with a cheaper test, I could have experienced a false positive or false negative, but in the end it wouldn't have changed the outcome - either I was pregnant or I wasn't - and I'd know one way or the other soon enough.
