Seeking Resources - My Uncle Had a Minor Stroke

My uncle just had a minor stroke this Wed. A brain vessel bursted in his brain and he started to lose feeling on this ride side of his body. My aunt drove him to the emergency room and he is still there in the ICU. We're worried about the recovery process. What resources are their available for families dealing with this?

You know, I'm really not sure.

Does the hospital have a counselor you can talk to? Online resources and chat rooms are probably the next best thing you can try. Otherwise, just try to be there for each other. *hugs*

As for the recovery process, that depends entirely on just how bad the damage is and the hospital will be able to help you find therapy for that.

RE: Seeking Resources - My Uncle Had a Minor Stroke

In the UK, there's a charity called the Stroke Association which helps with support, information and practical help once the patient is discharged from hospital. There may be something similar where you are. I'm sure the hospital will be able to point you in the right direction, as much of the recovery from stroke happens after discharge.

Thanks for the support everyone. He is fully recovered now and is back to his normal self. He is watching his diet a lot more closely and did have heart surgery. There was a blockage in his heart as well. He's doing good, but now my aunt isn't doing so great. Praying for everyone's loved ones.

RE: Seeking Resources - My Uncle Had a Minor Stroke

It’s great to hear that your uncle is recovering but do follow up with your doctor regularly since statistically 1/3 of those with strokes have another within 2 years. My father also had a mild stroke several years ago but as per the doctor’s advice he has made major lifestyle changes. He exercises, does not drink alcohol or smoke, monitors his cholesterol and sugar levels. And eats as healthy as he can.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
