RE: using marijuana for OA pain?

It is used to help with a lot of things, chemotherapy, nausea, glucoma. You should be able to get a medical prescription to purchase it . I can't stand the smell of it either, but sick people are being helped and that should be looked at as a good thing. Omega-3 Fish Oil capsules help to reduce my pain from OA.

There is no smell if you cook with the marijauna or use a vaporizer. You can also take marijauna in tablet form. Marijauna tablets have been used to treat a multitude of conditions for thousands of years in China. I think we can learn a lot from the Chinese...

It definitely works for a lot of people. As others said, just be careful and stick to using it for the pain if it really helps you. If it's not legal for you, make sure you don't put it out into the open that you're using it either because you never know who may disagree and rat you out.

RE: using marijuana for OA pain?

I've heard that it's quite effective in cakes, and I've also had people tell me they felt really relaxed after eating the cakes, which I suspect is the way it fights the pain - it relaxes the muscles. At the moment, my pain is under control, and I have a muscle relaxant tablet I can take when it's bad. I think I'd rather stay on the right side of the law on this one, although if anyone wants to try it to ease their pain, that's up to them - I would never condemn them for it.

Sandra, You are funny. I thought it was brownies, I guess cake is the same thing. Also does marijuana make you dizzy or giddy? Thanks.

Yes, brownies and cakes are similar things - they're both baked goods. As for being dizzy or giddy, I don't know about that - just the feel good factor that people have told me about. I think it makes you giggly, which is no bad thing when you're in pain.

RE: using marijuana for OA pain?

Somehow I'm not surprised that Marijuana has been proven to help OA pain. It has been used to help the pain and nausea associated with Cancer and its treatments. So its more or less a natural painkiller, a natural stomach settler and has even been used as a natural relaxant for those with anxiety disorders. Notice how I use to word natural, because that's what Marijuana technically is its a natural herb. The sad thing is that its got a bad rap over the years for some wrong use of it. So, because this has happened there are those who oppose using it for medical reasons. Yet no one seems to have any problems with the prescription narcotics out there, because well none of those are being banned, but they can be just as dangerous if used in the wrong way. It comes down to not the fact that Marijuana is bad, I tend to think that its not it has a genuine purpose, its has to do with how its been used in the past that has given it such a bad rap.

RE: using marijuana for OA pain?

I was using it about 30 years ago when I was suffering from severe pain from the degenerating discs in my lower spine, and that pain was often. I found that it did help me greatly, and back then, I was buying it from friends. I've always been very open-minded when it came to cannabis and now that I'm in my middle 50s, I still am. As a former nurse, (I also did Visiting Nursing for awhile), I can't count how many people have used cannabis to relieve a multitude of unsavory side effects from chemo, and pain relief in general. It's been a very long time since I've smoked it and I've relied on muscle relaxers and pain medications since then...but I wouldn't mind going back to smoking it again, if only for the pain relief it gave me in the past. Smile
