Back pain due to a large chest?

Although, it is not chronic back pain, does anybody have any advice for back pain caused by having a large chest?

I do find weight lifting helps. Do you think yoga might be helpful? Or can you think of any other suggestions? I also definitely do not want to have a breast reduction. So any advice would be greatly appreciated!

RE: Back pain due to a large chest?

You need to strengthen the muscles supporting your spine, everyone with back pain needs to do this. You don't necessarily need to train with weights to do this, there are lots of boy weight exercises you can do to strengthen your back and your core.

As always, thank you so much for your response! I think a lot of the exercises I do from a yoga DVD are helpful for strengthening my back and core. So I will definitely keep that up. But out of curiosity, do you think ensuring you are wearing the proper bra size has any real impact over back pain?

Of course, many women wear the wrong sized bra and don't even know it. You might need to be measured to be sure about your size. Sports bras are a good option if you exercise and need more substantial support.

I have been measured a few times, and it is mostly consistent. Although, I still sometimes feel as though the fit is still wrong. I don't know whether it is because of my own weight fluctuations or it just not being appropriate bras for me. I think I need to be measured again but someone with a well-known reputation. I agree about sports bras. I need to invest in a really good one. Right now I just wear like 3 less quality sports bras when I workout.

If the fit feels wrong it probably is. You could find a professional bra fitter and having a proper fitting. People who consult a professional bra fitter often find out their bra size is wrong.

Women do need more support when exercises, especially women with a large chest. It will help prevent your breasts from sagging and improve performance.

RE: Back pain due to a large chest?

There are new types of Bras on the market that go by a person's size more so then their chest size. I'm sure you have seen these advertised, their suppose to not only be comfortable like a sports bra but also give great support like an under wire bra. Haven't actually tried them myself, because I can't afford them right now. But like you I do have support issues with my chest, fortunately it hasn't resulted yet in my having back problems. I know this does happen to women though, and sometimes they are advised to have breast reduction. I don't blame you for wanting to avoid this, so maybe a better support bra will help.

I have to agree with others here, before you even consider exercises that will strengthen muscle - you need to find a bra that fits and suits your needs. A bra from a company who specialists in larger chests will cost more than the average bra, but believe me the extra cost is worth it. As well as ensuring, as every woman should, you have the correct size, you need a bra that offers plenty of support.

RE: Back pain due to a large chest?

Thanks again for all the suggestions. I think the solution so far has been wearing my proper size, as well as exercising actively. I still have yet to find a really amazing sports bra though, therefore I end up wearing a couple when I work out. Not the cutest look but it works! I don't think it is serious enough that I should need to see a specialist or take any sort of medicine. I think this type back pain is quite common since I have a large chest on an otherwise small frame.
