I appreciate that the this thread is quite old, but what davbonpol and MindyT have said above, are really significant in helping with IBS and for good digestive health all round. I suffer from RA and Lupus - both of which are autoimmune diseases which affect gut health.

Apple cider vinegar (ACV) raw, unpasteurized, and with the "mother" will help you with a myriad of problems - particularly gut health. Raw honey from a good local producer will also help as it's antibiotic, antibacterial, and antifungal. Live natural yogurt or milk keffir will also give you enormous relief from your symptoms, as well as cutting out processed foods, and watching your sugar intake. Fruit can also be detrimental if you are suffering bad cramps in the lead up to an IBS attack - keep it to a minimum, and cut out fruit juice and drink vegetable juices instead.

I hope some of this helps you, and any other people looking for some advice on this topic. The things I mention here are things that have really helped me, and because of these changes in my diet, I've been able to avoid taking nasty pharmaceutical drugs that would give me horrible side effects too.

I know this is an old thread and since it has not been closed I just wanted to say I found this information very useful. This particular subject has been causing me quite a bit of concern and that is putting it mildly. I still don't know I fully understand the connection between oral hygiene and IBS but the recommendations for dealing with inflammatory issues is what I will take from the conversation.
