Childhood Migraines? Is the long-term effect Adult Migraines?

I believe I had my first migraine in the 4th grade. I was so excited about our ice cream party - it was a full-blown ice cream sundae party. But the day of the party, my head was pounding. I remember resting my head on my desk and crying. I could not see, I could not stand the light in the room (and back then you had huge windows in elementary school classrooms). Has anyone here suffered childhood migraines? Maybe that is one reason I am susceptible to adult migraines.

It is probably genetic, most children who suffer from migraines have a family history of migraines. Do you have a family history of migraines?

A friend of mine suffered from chronic migraines in primary school. He is in his 20's now and he still suffers from the migraines.

I agree with the other reader about genetics. I got them rarely as a child and heavily in my 30's and early 40's. My mother suffered the same thing. I dreaded them and could feel them coming on. Sometimes I wondered if the worry and fear was bringing them on. As a child I had no idea what was going on but I also didn't realize it was unusual or that everyone didn't suffer them. As an adult when they began to be a real problem I sought out many treatments and nothing worked other than taking some very strong meds and shutting down for a day. It seemed like once I had a good sleep it broke the pattern. Thankfully I had a hysterectomy in my 40's and also my thyroid gland removed and they pretty much disappeared after that although there were other problems resulting from this so wouldn't necessarily recommend it.

Yes, I think they are genetic also. My mother always suffered from migraines and so do I now. However I never tended to get them often as a child. I think as an adult we are all more stressed, which brings them on. I just have to go to a dark room and try to relax when it happens these days.

A migraine is the one wich does not cure so easily, but regular care from childhood does not effect much. Now there is an advanced treatment also for faster relief.
