How do you deal with fatigue?

I was diagnosed with RA and ankylosing spondylitis about 17 years ago. I've been able to deal with most symptoms. However, the fatigue really gets me down.

Some days I feel like I'm falling asleep on my feet. I'm terrible in the morning. I do better as the day goes on. It's awful to be reading a web page and find yourself dozing off. Sometimes I will take a nap, but most of the time I don't really need to sleep.

It can be frustrating. There are things I want to do or need to do, but I don't have the energy to get them done.

Has anyone found ways to combat the fatigue?

RE: How do you deal with fatigue?

I don't think you can combat the fatigue, because it'd your body's way of signalling that it needs to rest. Instead of trying to fight it, roll with it and rest when you need to. Make things easier on yourself by sitting down to do tasks whenever you can, or enlist the help of friends and family. You will never beat RA, but you can learn to manage it, once you accept the limitations the condition imposes and work around them.

I think you should listen to your body, going against your natural body signals will be counter-productive and cause more harm than good. However, I do think fatigue can be reduce through a healthy diet based on sustainable energy. You will be more prone to fatigue if you rely on glucose for energy.
