preventing RA relapses?

I am looking for information but have had no success so far. Does anyone know if there is any information about preventing RA relapses? I am on Enbrel and have not had any flares but two weeks ago, I flared up badly. I think it was from stress. I missed 3 days of work and was barely moving until Sunday because I hurt so much. I was going to get a visit with the rheumatologist but it went away before I set anything up.

RE: preventing RA relapses?

So little of what causes RA is known that predicting and preventing flares is highly unlikely. I have never seen anything to indicate that they know what might cause them. Stress could be it or that could simply be you are seeing connections because you are looking for an answer. If you do find something about the causes of flares, please share it because I think a few people would be interested.

RE: preventing RA relapses?

I have not read much about the disease. I have bought a few books but I always put off reading. I am not much of a book person and reading about this just makes me feel depressed.

If you don't want to read, what you can do is to keep a journal about how you feel day by day. Then if it happens again, you will have the journal information to look back at. It is an easier way to understand if something is causing the flares for you. Otherwise, I don't think the scientists have enough information yet.

That's a big challenge. Did I mention I procrastinate? :) I'll try it but I am not confident.

To me, knowledge is your best friend with this disease and probably with other diseases too. If you are not a reader, look for YouTube videos to learn more. If you pick up something it could prove helpful.

RE: preventing RA relapses?

I think diet plays a big role in rheumatoid arthritis. You need to avoid foods like sugar and processed food which cause inflammation and eat more anti-inflammatory foods like extra virgin olive oil, kelp, oily fish, broccoli and blueberries.
