Ways To Prevent Diabetes?

Shouldn't there be some ways to help prevent diabetes? Even if it's within your family? I don't want to get diabetes, but my father and my uncle had it. I worry that I might get it eventually as well and that is something I don't really want to go through.

If it is hereditary, then it will definitely affect you. You have to be very conscious about your diet.Follow Proper diet and exercise.

As the above poster stated, if you have the genes for it, you will get it. However, if you manage your diet well and exercise regularly you decrease your chances of turning those 'bad' genes on. So eat well and work out and you may avoid it.

I wish there was I really do, because like you its genetically in my family. My mother had diabetes for years, ao its stands to reason that at least one of her children if not more will end up with the condition as well. Medical sciences hasn't come up with a way to prevent this from happening. All we can do is be aware of the symptoms associated with diabetes, watch our diet and exercise. Also, see our doctor as recommended, at this point these are the only things that can be done.

I agree with all of that's written here. Unfortunately, there's no escaping this villain. All we can do is to try to lower the possibilities of exacerbation or complications by committing to a healthy lifestyle - you know, diet, exercise, stress levels, avoiding bad habits, etc.

Type I Diabetes occurs because of genetic,auto immune, infective causes which cannot be prevented. Thus it is difficult to prevent or predict Type I Diabetes.

Follow some regular tips prevent Diabetes. Do more physical activity and loose weight, Lower your blood sugar, Boost your sensitivity to insulin. Get plenty of fiber to improve blood sugar control and lowers risk of heart disease. Eat healthy and balanced diet.

Right now I am scared to go to my doctor. I am already borderline and I know I have not been doing the things that I should to limit my chances of things escalating. The hereditary aspect makes me feel like there is no escaping " the villain" as someone called it. My doctor still makes me feel like there is still hope for me with proper diet and exercise.

Don't be scared, you can buy the test strips to test your blood sugar level yourself from a pharmacy. The best thing to do is eat low GI foods, buy products like peanut butter with no added sugar or salt, the same for fruit juices. Try to eat carbohydrates early in the day so they burn up quicker and make sure you eat regularly, and not eat when you are starving. That's when levels spike and you need to control that if you are borderline. My mother is borderline, so she is being very careful with her diet.
