Signs you might have cataracts

Hello,

I am hoping someone on this site can tell me the signs or symptoms indicating you might have cataracts. About six months ago I started to have great difficulty driving at night, especially when cars approach me; is this normal or could this be cataracts? I am also having trouble with both my distant and close up vision. I plan on seeing my eye doctor within the next few months but I was curious about how people know they have cataracts.

Thanks!

Signs you might have cataracts

Hi there!

Bad night vision, blurry vision even with glasses or magnifying glass is a good sign for having cataracts. Don't wait too long for seeing the doctor if you did not go already. You don't want to hurt yourself because you can't see.

Good Luck,

Rose

RE: Signs you might have cataracts

My father had cataracts in both of his eyes. He lived with them for close to 4 years until he finally had surgery. He is thankful that he did. One of the things he always complained about was driving at night. He also said that there was a "yellow cloud" over his eyes. Almost like looking through wax paper.

Good luck & it is best to get your eyes checked out!

RE: Signs you might have cataracts

I agree, it is best to get this checked out. I never knew I had cataracts until an ophthalmologist discovered them during a routine eye exam. I was in my early 20s then, but it was determined that the cataracts started because I was on steroid regimens alot due to chronic asthma. They weren't very big back then, and I don't think they got any bigger now, although I do have more difficulty seeing at night while driving now. But yes, do get this checked out, good luck and please keep us posted!

RE: Signs you might have cataracts

A cataract was found on one eye, by my eye doctor some time ago. I find that sun glare bothers me the most, I am using something called Can-C eye drops to help clear it up, I am having some success with the drops. Not sure I want to have surgery, as I have heard of problems after surgery that are not good.

RE: Signs you might have cataracts

I came here hoping to ask the exact same question that sweetlamb asked! I have been noticing blurred vision in my right eye for a couple of months now. My eye also tears up, and I have a lot of trouble reading. I looked at my eye, and it looks a bit cloudy. Is this indicative of a cataract, or is something worse going on there? It's really alarming! You guys are great for replying to this. Thank you in advance! I have an eye exam next week, but it's troubling in the meantime.

I think some of those are symptoms of a cataract. The tearing of the eyes is something that I don't read as indicative of a cataract though. It's best to see a specialist just to make sure since I'm not an expert.

Better you consult an ophthalmologist for a detailed check-up. Blurry vision, double vision in a single eye, light sensitivity, and clouded vision are the important symptoms of cataract. Do you have any other vision problem? My grandmother had a cataract in her left eye and she was suffering from severe vision problems too. Later she had a lasik cataract surgery at a well-known eye clinic in Toronto. Now, she's happy with her surgery and enjoying better vision. The cataract can treat completely if it is diagnosed at the right time. So don't bother about it. Get an expert advice and get well soon. All the best.
