RE: Dealing With Headaches: The Power of Massage

‚ÄčI also give myself a massage when I have headache but not for 30 minutes. I usually apply a mentholated balm and massage for around 5 minutes. I do find that using an aromatherapy burner also helps sooth my headache. Lavender, Bergamot and eucalyptus are some of the ones that have worked for me. My doctor has also recommended the following to relieve headaches if you don't feel like drinking a painkiller:

1. Use an ice pack on the area that hurts. Also try placing it in the surrounding area as well like the temples as well as the back of the neck.
2. Take a calming walk or a warm relaxing bath.
3. Gently apply a rotating pressure to the area with your index finger or thumb. Press for 7 to 15 seconds and then release. Repeat several times.

Dealing With Headaches: The Power of Massage

You must target the core part of your neck, usually right behind the ears where the headache is starting from, in order to be effective. Use the palms of the fingers, and do a combination of hard and soft massages consistently for 30 minutes. Lastly, get your rest. Have you all tried this technique? I would love to hear your experiences with naturally dealing with headaches.

I totally agree with you. Massage is one of the non medicative treatments , very natural and relaxing. A friend of mine did head massage for me and i felt totally relieved and fresh and relaxed. it was something a simple aspirin couldnt give.

Hi Akanbi,
Yes massage helps in dealing with headaches and like to add to cop headaches exercise regularly and manage stress but avoid high intensity workouts. Watch what you eat, keep a headache diary and stay hydrated. Take anti inflammatory and avoid caffeine, alcohol and tobacco. Stick to a sleep schedule to get proper sleep.

RE: Dealing With Headaches: The Power of Massage

I was taught by my Father to use this method of massage for tension headaches, and have done it since then. Massage is a very useful tool for ridding yourself of a tension headache. Also massage works great for a sinus headache, just apply pressure with the thumbs, just below the eyebrows. Push upwards and out, following the brow line.

RE: Dealing With Headaches: The Power of Massage

I love massages whenever I have headaches. I usually do this on myself, along with some eucalyptus or tea tree oil. I just rub some on my temples then all over my forehead. I go ahead and massage it maybe for five to seven minutes. I have this little oil container that is a roller type and it doubles as a massager as well.

Whenever my mom is around, she massages my forehead if I'm suffering from a headache. I swear she has magic hands because the pain just goes away after she massages me. I used to suffer from headaches all the time when I was younger and this was all she had to do. No medications or pain relievers, just massaging me to get rid of the headache.
