gallbladder to come out

I have been suffering from indigestion problems, bad gas and feeling full for a few years. I was on different PPIs and nothing seemed to help. Finally, my doctor suggested a gall bladder test. They gave me a Hida Scan and last Wednesday I was told my gall bladder needs to come out. It is basically not working. It is only putting out at 11% of what it should be.

Now, I would like to know if anyone else has had gall bladder removal and if it helped at all. The surgery is expensive (all surgery is expensive) and I don't get how removing a gall bladder that wasn't working will help.

RE: gallbladder to come out

I had mine out! I remember it eliminated one symptom that was very uncomfortable. It was that feeling of being full. I actually felt better a little over a week after. I still have the gas problems and indigestion but that is from the GERD and post-cholecystectomy syndrome - whole other problem. It can happen so its a symptom that can cause problems.

RE: gallbladder to come out

Do you know why removing the gall bladder relieves the symptoms. I don't understand that. With the problems you have, I don't know if I want to get it removed. I don't know which is worse.

RE: gallbladder to come out

That is a question for your doctor. I am not sure either. I just know that some of the symptoms did go away so that was helpful. If you do get it out, I hope you don't have complications. Its no fun.

RE: gallbladder to come out

If your gall bladder isn't working properly, and your doctorfeels it needs to be removed, chances are he is right. He is probably trying to help prevent other problems that could come from not having it removed. If you have concerns, I recommend talking extensively with your doctor about your concerns and making sure that allof your questions are answered before you have the surgery. Remember, it is okay to ask questions and itis okay to get a second opinion if you feel the need to do so.

RE: gallbladder to come out

Your probably right. I just don't like paying all that money then getting worse. I know that probably won't happen but thats what I worry about. I try asking the doc questions but it all goes over my head. I think he will go crazy trying to explain it.

RE: gallbladder to come out

Do you mean that you are trying to figure out if having your gallbladder out will remove those symptoms? Or are you asking if your symptoms are really likely to be caused by your gallbladder. It sounds like for sure your gallbladder should come out if it is not functioning much at all. Did they say you have gall stones? You could consult a second doctor to make sure it is recommended to have your gall bladder out. Your symptoms certainly could be from gall bladder disorder but, of course, there is no way for knowing for certain before surgery.

gallbladder to come out

KCareConnections, Yes I was trying to understand if getting the gall bladder out would eliminate the symptoms. Now I understand that it likely will. I don't have gall stones. It is just that the gall bladder isn't producing. I met with the surgeon last week and he has removed many gall bladders. He said the prior test results show my bladder is no longer effective. I am now scheduled for surgery so I hope all goes well.

goodselfme, it sounds like your gall bladder was in bad shape too. I am trying to resolve this rapidly because I don't want long term problems coming from it.

Thanks for helping! :)

People's symptoms of gall bladder problems are different. If the gall bladder is not working to capacity as stated by your regular doctor, get another opinion from an ND (naturopathic doctor). Second opinions are good to help you make a healthy decision. Your primary doctor should welcome your decision to get another opinion. I had a feeling of fullness, gas and could not sit down without a slight pain. I dealth with that for 3 years, however my gall bladder ended up becoming thick walled with over 100 stones and growing onto my liver. There are defininte INDIVIDUAL long term side effects of just ignoring symptoms. Fortunately, I got my gall bladder out, recovered and have better health because of the removal of it. The human body sends signals (symptoms) so get to know them and respond to them in an appropriate way.
