RE: Natural remedy for headaches

annmagic, not to beat a dead horse, as many people are getting relief. If you are dehydrated your brain suffers as well, so your problem would seem to be cleared up by hydrating yourself. Why, if you know what the problem is, would you even consider another solution which is something that you already know is not the answer, or even saying so. That is like having the answer to a math problem, but saying I know that the other answer is not right. Of course it is not correct, you already have the answer. People that use the method are happy, you may keep searching for a hard scientific reason if you wish. Please let us know when you find it. Perhaps it's the same concept as when you moisten your sinuses with steam and the pain goes away. Cheers.

Having seen the placebo effect in action I know how powerful it can be so I always look for the hard science proving the point. For me, I often get headaches from not keeping myself properly hydrated so I am fairly certain that getting extra oxygen wouldn't help. My point is that headaches can be caused by many causes so they would likely need different treatments to resolve the pain.

And the point some of us are trying to make is that some natural remedies do work for headaches. The fact that they work is not necessarily a placebo effect - recent research into nutrition has found that many foods and other natural substances can ease the symptoms of certain conditions. Whether the science is there or not, if it works, it's great, and it shouldn't be dismissed as coincidence or placebo just because there's no 'proof.'

RE: Natural remedy for headaches

Artistry, Sandra,

I apologize if I seem to be coming across as dismissive. That was not my intent. I actually would like to see if there is research on this at some point to help me understand.

My only point was with regard to ensuring the placebo effect isn't the only effect one is getting. It is so powerful that we can really feel better even though what we are doing isn't having any measurable effect.

Artistry, I mentioned the dehydration to highlight that there could be many causes for headaches that would not all respond to the same treatment. I mentioned it because it actually took me a while to realize that that was a problem for me as it was not readily apparent because I never felt thirsty.

Anyway, I do think we have beaten the poor dead horse too long. There are valid points all around,

Ann
