recommendations for probiotics

I want to add probiotics to my diet but I am not sure which. Can anyone recommend some probiotics to use?

RE: recommendations for probiotics

The most common that you will find is Acidophilus from my experience. I personally take a mix with Phyto Pharmica Probiotic Pearls, Kyo-Dophilus, Bifidus and Acidophilus. Just a warning. I have read that China is now producing some of these. With their corruption and lack of quality standards, I wouldn't let these near my GI tract.

There are also a number of companies making capsules with several strains of bacteria. This can make taking pills easier. It also means you'll get a more natural mixture if I understand right.

RE: recommendations for probiotics

The most common probiotic I see used in healthcare is lactobacillus. It is often given to patient's as a preventative measure when they are receiving antibiotic treatment, in order to maintain the normal flora in the digestive system.

I have been using probiotics for the last 5 years. I've tried acidophilus and I've tried pills with a few different bacteria in them.

I didn't have much luck with the mixtures. In fact, the lactobacillus rhamnosus gave me a little bit of trouble if I took it in pill form. It doesn't seem to bother me as much in yogurt.

I've found acidophilus to work the best. I was really surprised to find my digestion improve after taken acidophilus twice a day. I have even noticed that when I have digestive upset, if I take acidophilus, things settle down more quickly.

I would recommend starting with acidophilus. Give it a month or two before you decide if it's working for you.
