At what age should women start getting mammograms?

If you don't mind my asking, at what age did you start getting them? And if you haven't had one, what age do you expect you will start?

You should start having them regularly at the age of 40.

If your family has a history of breast cancer, it's recommended that you start getting them earlier than that, too.

Breast cancer runs in my family. I had a baseline mammogram when I was about 32. I thought that I felt a lump. So, I went to my doctor. She said based on my family history, it would be a good idea to have one. They did not find anything. It was denser tissue. There was no cyst or growth. Some women get them earlier. I would really recommend talking to your doctor. I would rather be safe and diagnose something sooner than later.

I think it depends. When you have a family history of breast cancer, it's better to start as early as 30, or even 28. But without a history of it in the family, it's fine to start getting mammograms at the age of 40, since that's the recommended age anyway.

From 14 years of age? That is hardly the case...!!! From 35 on women should start doing it as a prevention. It's a fairly aggressive exam, no pleasant, so it's necessary to be done, but not before 35.
